Virginia Walmart shooting: 6 employees, shooter dead after manager reportedly opens fire in break room

CHESAPEAKE, Va. (TCD) — Seven people, including the suspect, are dead and many more injured after a man reportedly opened fire at a Walmart on Tuesday night.

On Wednesday, Nov. 23, Chesapeake Police Chief Mark Solesky spoke at a press briefing and shared details about the shooting. According to Solesky, the department’s 911 dispatch center received the first call at 10:12 p.m., and officers arrived at the Walmart on Sam’s Circle within two minutes. Chesapeake Police officers went inside the store at 10:16 p.m., and the store was “declared safe” by 11:20 p.m.

Solesky said six people were killed, and the shooter likely died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Four victims remain hospitalized.

Chesapeake Police identified the suspect as 31-year-old Andre Bing. He was reportedly armed with a handgun and had “multiple magazines on his person.”

A SWAT team conducted a search at the suspected gunman’s house, and that scene was cleared. Solesky does not believe there is a threat to the public.

The suspect was reportedly an employee at Walmart and used a pistol in the shooting, but the man’s motive remains unclear at the time.

According to Chesapeake Police, three people — including the shooter — were found dead in the break room, while one other person was deceased at the front of the store. Three other victims died at the hospital from their injuries.

Police said “at least six” additional victims were taken to area hospitals, and one remains in critical condition.

WAVY-TV reports Walmart confirmed Bing worked there as the overnight team lead. He has reportedly been employed by Walmart since 2010.

An employee at the Walmart told ABC News the suspect was her manager and he “just opened the door and he just opened fire.”

She shared, “He wasn’t aiming at anybody specifically. He just literally started shooting throughout the entire break room and I watched multiple people just drop down to the floor, whether they were trying to duck for cover or they were hit.”
